Manchester has an incredibly rich transport history, the story of which has yet to be told through it’s own dedicated museum. Manchester had one end of the first passenger railway in the world – trolley buses, trams, buses, trams (again), canals and the ocean-liner bearing Ship Canal. We had one of the most successful tram systems from 1902 to 1948 that, at it’s height in 1929, carried almost 250 million passengers! This interactive provides an online platform for this amazing story.

With the help of local historian and MMU teacher Terry Wyke, and TV scriptwriter Gus Bousfield we put together a whistle-stop tour using images, footage and facts garnered from the best archives of the North West. Featuring Lee Ingleby (Wind In The Willows, Master & Commander) and Jessica Hall (Hollyoaks, Scallywagga).
